Wood burning stove with back boiler: how much it heats

A wood burning stove with a back boiler heats the water of the home heating system, not just the air of the room it stands in. In Klover terms these appliances are the wood thermo stoves, and the published range has two: BELVEDERE 20s, rated at 12.6 kW of nominal heat output, and BELVEDERE 30s, rated at 13.5 kW.

That output is split in two, and the data sheet declares the two parts separately. The BELVEDERE 20s gives 7.3 kW to the water of the system and 5.3 kW to the room; the BELVEDERE 30s gives 8.4 kW to the water and 5.1 kW to the room. The larger share of the heat enters the circuit and reaches the radiators of the other rooms, while the rest heats the room where the wood thermo stove is installed.

The fuel is still wood, loaded by hand, with the flame in full view. What changes is where the heat ends up, and therefore the installer's work: besides the flue, the connection to the pipes of the heating system is needed.

Each model declares its heating surface. The BELVEDERE 20s states 180 m², the BELVEDERE 30s states 230 m².

The figure holds under normal operating conditions, that is with dry wood, a flue to standard and an averagely insulated home. The volume to be heated counts as much as the floor area, because a high ceiling asks for more heat over the same plan, and the final calculation is made by the technician on the real data of the house.

Efficiency says how much of the wood becomes useful heat: 89.4% for the BELVEDERE 20s and 85% for the BELVEDERE 30s. Both wood thermo stoves are declared in energy class A+.

Klover wood thermo stoves work with the Sistema Sicuro Top, built on the bain-marie principle. The boiler body does not work under pressure: the circuit stays at zero pressure, a condition that reduces thermal stress on the structure and protects the system over time.

It is not an accessory to be added, it is the way the wood thermo stove is built. The other features of the BELVEDERE 20s follow the same principle: the enamelled cast iron combustion chamber, removable for servicing, the double glass door, the cool handle for openings during operation and the automatic control of combustion air, which keeps the burn steady.

The BELVEDERE 30s comes with the hydraulic kit and built-in circulator: the parts that move the water towards the radiators sit inside the appliance, and the work on site is concentrated on the connections. The flue outlet has a diameter of 180 mm on this model and of 150 mm on the BELVEDERE 20s.

Size and weight decide where the wood thermo stove can stand. The BELVEDERE 20s measures 60x56x118 cm and weighs 260 kg; the BELVEDERE 30s measures 69x57x131.5 cm and weighs 310 kg. These are figures to check before buying, together with the route the delivery has to take inside the house.

The combustion chamber says how much wood goes in with each load: 340x350x390 mm on the BELVEDERE 20s, 460x470x430 mm on the BELVEDERE 30s. Both come in four finishes, Avorio, Terra di Siena, Bordeaux and Matt Black, with majolica or steel cladding.

Hot water for the system also comes from two other Klover wood families.
