HOW A PELLET STOVE WORKS

A pellet stove burns pellets in a burn pot, inside a combustion chamber, and releases the heat into the room. The electronics decide how many pellets and how much air enter the fire. In Klover pellet stoves this work is done by Pellet Cruise Control, the patented system that progressively adjusts the feed of fuel and air. Klover pellet stoves range from the 6.4 kW of nominal heat output of MISS to the 11.7 kW of AURA 120s, OMEGA 120s and OMEGA 120s PLUS, with a declared efficiency between 91% and 95.4% and energy class A+.

The path of the heat in a Klover pellet stove has four stages: ignition and combustion in the burn pot, the adjustment of pellets and air, the distribution of heat in the room, and remote control. The fumes leave through the flue outlet, which on Klover pellet stoves has a diameter of 80 mm: this is the figure from which the technician starts checking the flue.

HOW THE PELLETS IGNITE AND BURN IN THE BURN POT

The pellets burn in the burn pot. On most Klover pellet stoves, including ASTRA 100s, MISS, OMEGA 120s, LADY 11s, SOFT 8s, SUPER 9s and the ONE series, the burn pot is the patented self-cleaning burn pot, born in the Klover workshops. Ignition is ultra-fast and automatic calibration ensures an always optimal start. With a partial, reverse rotation, the self-cleaning burn pot performs automatic cleaning in a few seconds and drops the residues into the ash compartment, without manual intervention: the fire goes out for a few moments, but the heat remains.

The internal structure of the self-cleaning burn pot is designed to prevent the combustion air from clogging, and in the event of a sudden power cut the system continues to work safely. KRONO 80s, KRONO 80s CARBON, KROS 80s and KLIN 80s have a cast iron burn pot instead.

Around the burn pot is the combustion chamber. On ASTRA 100s, AURA 80s, CLASS 90s, MISS, OMEGA 120s, LADY 11s, SOFT 8s and OBLO' 8s it is in vermiculite HD. On VERTICAL 10s the chamber is in refractory material, and VERTICAL 10s, ONE 8s and ONE 10s have cast iron heat exchangers.

WHAT ADJUSTS THE PELLETS AND THE AIR IN A PELLET STOVE

Pellet Cruise Control, a patented Klover technology found on all Klover pellet stoves, from MISS to OMEGA 120s PLUS, adjusts the feed of fuel and air progressively. Traditional systems instead work through constant switching on and off or through abrupt changes in load. With Pellet Cruise Control the stove stays longer at its point of maximum efficiency.

The declared advantages of Pellet Cruise Control are higher efficiency for the same output delivered, lower pellet consumption, a longer life for the mechanical components, smoother and quieter operation and reduced emissions. On ASTRA 100s, AURA 80s, CLASS 90s, KRONO 80s, KROS 80s, KLIN 80s, MISS, OMEGA 120s, LADY 11s and DIVA SLIM AIR 100s, Pellet Cruise Control works together with automatic control of the combustion air.

HOW THE HEAT REACHES THE ROOM

The heat produced in the combustion chamber reaches the room in two ways. On pellet stoves with Cyclone ventilation over 5 levels, such as ASTRA 100s, AURA 100s, CLASS 90s, KRONO 80s, MISS, OMEGA 120s, LADY 11s and DIVA SLIM AIR 100s, a fan pushes the warm air into the room with adjustable intensity. AURA 100s declares 9.7 kW, an efficiency of 94% and 90 m² of heated surface area, with ductable Cyclone ventilation. The heated surface area applies with quality pellets, a compliant flue and a home with average insulation.

On SOFT 8s, SOFT 10s, SUPER 7s, SUPER 9s, OBLO' 8s, VERTICAL 10s, ONE 8s and ONE 10s the ventilation is adjustable and can be switched off. The heat then spreads by natural convection: warm air rises, cooler air sinks, without fans and without noise. Klover Magazine has dedicated the article on the quiet pellet stove to this way of working.

Some Klover pellet stoves also carry the heat into another room: AURA 80s, CLASS 90s, MISS and LADY 11s have one ducted outlet, AURA 120s and OMEGA 120s have two.

HOW A PELLET STOVE IS CONTROLLED

A Klover pellet stove is controlled with the touch remote control or with the handheld touch control, both with a built-in programmable thermostat: the remote control on AURA, CLASS 90s, KRONO 80s, KROS 80s and KLIN 80s, the handheld control on ASTRA 100s, MISS, OMEGA 120s, LADY 11s and DIVA SLIM AIR 100s.

SOFT 8s, SOFT 10s, SUPER 7s, SUPER 9s, OBLO' 8s, VERTICAL 10s, ONE 8s and ONE 10s have the handheld touch control with built-in Wi-Fi, which connects the stove to the KLOVER HOME app. The app manages switching on, switching off, temperatures and hourly schedules, checks the status of the appliance and monitors the remaining autonomy. How a Klover stove is programmed is explained in the article on the programmable pellet stove.

Maintenance goes through the Frontal Clean system, which on ASTRA 100s, KRONO 80s, SUPER 7s and VERTICAL 10s simplifies maintenance and on the ONE series gives front access for cleaning.
