WHAT A HYDRO PELLET STOVE DOES
A hydro pellet stove heats water, not only the air of the room it stands in. Inside it has a heat exchanger that passes the heat of the fire to the circuit of the heating system, and from there the heat reaches the radiators of the whole house. In Klover language these appliances are the boiler stoves of the thermo line, and they range from 11.3 to 30 kW of rated output.
An air pellet stove heats the room it stands in, and at most the nearby ones when the air is ducted. A boiler stove does something else: it takes the place of the boiler in the existing system. The water heated by the fire enters the radiator circuit and the whole house warms up, room by room, as it did before with gas or with oil.
The rest is identical to a stove: the pellet tank, the auger that carries it to the burn pot, combustion controlled by the board. What changes is where the heat produced ends up, and as a consequence the work of the installer changes too, because besides the flue outlet a connection to the pipes of the heating system is needed.
This is the reason why a boiler stove is assessed together with the system in front of it. The radiators stay the same, the circuit stays the same: in place of the boiler comes an appliance that burns pellets instead of gas, and that stands in a lived-in room instead of the utility room.
WHAT POWER OUTPUT IS NEEDED FOR A HOUSE OF 100 OR 200 SQUARE METRES
Power output is not decided on square metres alone. What counts is the volume to be heated, therefore also the height of the ceilings, and above all the insulation: the same floor area in a recently built house and in one from 1970 calls for very different outputs. The calculation is made by the technician who follows the installation, on the real data of the home.
The Klover range covers the whole interval:
- 11.3 kW, with KLIO SLIM and DIVA SLIM
- 14.9 kW, with THERMOAURA 120s, THERMOSUPER 120s and STYLE 140s
- 17.6 and 17.9 kW, with STYLE 19 and STYLE 21
- 21.9 kW, with STYLE 180s
- 30 kW, with DIVA 3000, the most powerful of the range
The values indicated are the rated output, that is the one declared at normal operating conditions. In practice a boiler stove almost always works below that value and modulates according to the demand of the thermostat: choosing it generously does not mean consuming more, it means having margin on the coldest days.
WHEN SPACE IS TIGHT: TWENTY-SEVEN CENTIMETRES OF DEPTH
The problem of a boiler stove in a flat is the bulk. The SLIM versions answer exactly this: KLIO SLIM and DIVA SLIM are 27.5 centimetres deep, by 90 of width and 112.5 of height, and they carry the same 11.3 kW. Set against a wall they steal less space than a low cabinet, and they remain boiler stoves in every respect, connected to the heating system.
The same line exists in two finish variants, DIVA SLIM WOOD and DIVA SLIM GRES, with the same dimensions and the same output.
For comparison, in the same range the boiler stoves of traditional layout are between 47 and 78 centimetres of width with depths from 52 to 63 centimetres: the SLIM reverses the proportions, it widens instead of protruding, and for a corridor or a wall along a passage it is the only geometry that fits.
HOW MUCH THEY YIELD: THE ENERGY CLASS
The energy class says how much of the fuel becomes useful heat. In the Klover thermo range most models are in class A++: THERMOAURA 120s, THERMOSUPER 120s, STYLE 140s, STYLE 15, STYLE 21, BELVEDERE 22s and DIVA 3000. The others are in class A+.
It is the figure that weighs most over time, because for the same heat produced it changes how much pellet is needed to produce it, and pellet is bought every year. On an appliance that works from October to April the difference is not seen on the day of purchase: it is seen at the end of the season, on the number of bags.
THE SAME THING WITH WOOD
Those who have wood available find in the same family two boiler stoves that burn it: BELVEDERE 20s, at 12.6 kW, and BELVEDERE 30s, at 13.5 kW, both in class A+ and both connected to the heating system like the pellet versions.
The choice between the two fuels is rarely a matter of preference. It depends on what there is around: those who have their own wood use it, those who have nowhere to store it find in pellet a fuel that takes up little room and is reloaded in a few minutes.
THE CONTO TERMICO
Eighteen of the twenty boiler stoves of the range fall under the Conto Termico, the Italian incentive that refunds part of the expense when a new appliance takes the place of an old system. The amount depends on the output, on the climate zone and on the appliance replaced.
The boiler stove is not added to the system: it replaces it at the point that counts, the heat generator. To find out what power output a specific house needs, the complete data sheets of the thermo range are on klover.it, and from every product page it is possible to request a quote.
