WHAT A CORNER WOOD BURNING FIREPLACE IS
A corner wood burning fireplace is a closed firebox with glass on two sides, built to be recessed into the corner between two walls. Klover makes two of them, ORION CORNER L and ORION CORNER R, rated at 12.5 kW nominal heat output, 85.2% efficiency and a heating surface of 120 m².
Both models share the same body: 97 cm wide, 65 cm deep, 139 cm high, for a weight of 315 kg. The flue outlet has a diameter of 200 mm and the combustion chamber is lined with refractory, the material that keeps the firebox temperature high.
The difference between the two names is the side the glass turns towards: ORION CORNER L shows the fire on the left side, ORION CORNER R on the right side. Everything else on the data sheet is the same, and each of the two wood fireplaces is declared in energy class A+, with the 5 star environmental certificate.
HOW MANY SQUARE METRES A CORNER WOOD FIREPLACE HEATS
The ORION CORNER data sheet declares a heating surface of 120 m². The figure applies under normal operating conditions, which means seasoned wood, a flue built to standard and a reasonably insulated home.
Volume counts as much as floor area, because a high ceiling asks for more heat over the same square metres, and the final calculation is made by the installer on the real figures of the house. The 12.5 kW declared are the nominal heat output, that is the heat the corner wood burning fireplace gives off under test conditions, not the wood it consumes.
Heat does not have to stay in the room where the fire is. ORION CORNER L and ORION CORNER R allow warm air ducting to up to four rooms, and the combustion air is adjusted to the millimetre: the point is to keep combustion steady rather than let it run.
RIGHT OR LEFT CORNER, AND HOW THE GLASS OPENS
Glass on two sides is what tells a corner fireplace from a front one: the flame is visible from the front and from the side, and the firebox stays readable to anyone crossing the room. ORION CORNER L and ORION CORNER R both carry panoramic ceramic glass on the two sides.
The door is a lift up type and also opens on a side hinge. The first movement serves the wood load, the second one the cleaning of the glass and the maintenance of the firebox, because it leaves the chamber fully accessible.
Choosing between the right and the left model depends on how the corner appears to whoever walks into the room: the glass belongs on the side the fire is looked at most often. The firebox weighs 315 kg and is installed on a base that can carry the load, with the 200 mm flue outlet connected to the chimney.
HOW A CORNER WOOD FIREPLACE BURNS
The combustion chamber of ORION CORNER is lined with refractory. The material stores heat and keeps the firebox temperature high, which is the condition for wood to burn right through: declared efficiency is 85.2%.
The structure is airtight and is arranged to draw combustion air from outside. The air feeding the fire therefore comes from a dedicated inlet rather than from the room, and the air control allows it to be measured out precisely throughout combustion.
The result sits in the two figures on the data sheet: energy class A+ and the 5 star environmental certificate for wood. Direct access to the internal parts keeps both daily cleaning and deeper maintenance simple.
THE CORNER THERMO FIREPLACE, WHEN THE FIRE JOINS THE HEATING SYSTEM
When the corner has to serve the radiators as well, the family is called ZEUS CORNER. ZEUS CORNER L and ZEUS CORNER R are corner wood thermo fireplaces and declare 10 kW of nominal heat output to water and 5.5 kW to the room, with 89.4% efficiency and a heating surface of 220 m².
The body measures 98x77x152 cm and weighs 475 kg, the flue outlet is 200 mm and the combustion chamber is in white refractory. Inside works the Sicuro Top System, the fully removable stainless steel exchanger, which slides out for cleaning without dismantling the thermo fireplace. Connection to the heating system is completed with a kit available as an option.
The two corner thermo fireplaces also have the lift up door, combustion air adjusted to the millimetre and a base with adjustable feet, and are declared in energy class A+ with the 5 star environmental certificate.
