What are cookies?

Cookies are short lines of text that websites visited by the user send to the user’s terminal, where they are stored in order to be retransmitted to the same websites the next time the user visits them.

For the purposes of this explanation, cookies can be categorised as technical cookies or profiling cookies based on the functions they perform, and first party cookies and third party cookies based on the subject that installs them.

Technical cookies: these are cookies used only to “effect the transmission of communication over an electronic communications network or in measure strictly necessary for the supplier of a service provided by the company for the information explicitly requested (…omission…) to provide a service”.

These are divided into:

- navigation or session cookies, which facilitate normal navigation and website operation;

- analytics cookies, assimilated with technical cookie only under the conditions set out in Clarifications of the Guarantor June 2015;

- operating cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (e.g. language etc.).

Profiling cookies: these are cookies designed to create profiles based on the user and are used to send advertising messages in lie with the preferences expressed by the user during the course of their navigation.

Third-party cookies: these are cookies from a website other than the one the user is visiting, installed via the latter.

  3. In the section named “Accept cookies” it is possible to specify if and when Safari should save cookies from websites. For further information click on the Help button (marked by a question mark);
